Today Josa is playing a medieval game with her brother. Both are dressed for the part. Josa is wearing a flowing medieval-style dress with bands of a different color fabric mid-arm and trimming of the same fabric at the neck. It also has a matching belt of the same fabric, held in place by a diamond shaped brooch.
Janet had a formal evening wedding. She is the daughter of the president of a big bank and is marrying the CEO of the same bank. Carrie was surprised Janet chose them to oversee her wedding and ever more surprised when Manu handed Janet over to her. Janet was really nice to work with but it took some time to plan the wedding. It was small, with family members and about 3 dozen friends. Yes, that is small, considering they would be having a bigger party later in the year with about 1,000 guests. Janet and her husband-to-be were both well known.
Carrie wore a maxi style skirt of satin with a chiffon overskirt. Her top is made of rayon. Tt is sleeveless with lots of gathers and ruching. A triple rope of pearls hangs around her neck. She wears high heels to make her tall enough so the skirts just touches the ground. It is raining again (it is time for the spring rains where Josa lives) and Josa and her family are going to a friend's house for dinner and a movie afterward. This dress is knit, long-sleeved, and drop-waisted with small ruffles at the cuffs and neck. There is also a ribbon and bow where the bodice attaches to the skirt.
Today Carrie is very nervous. Manu called a few days ago to say she was still not feeling well enough to attend an important fund-raising banquet. But she had called some people and checked to make sure it was okay for Carrie to attend in her place as representative of the business. The people were fine with that. So Carrie, terrified of messing up, went shopping for a formal dress as Manu had told her to do.
The dress is of a thin satin with sheer over. The top is lace in a leaf pattern. A clutch purse of satin holds Carrie's keys, phone and the like. Carrie wears a bracelet of pearls around her wrist. For any wondering the night went well and Carrie did just fine. When they were shopping the other day, Josa and her mother found this simple wool dress. Josa liked it and her mother bought it because she agreed it would be nice for holiday parties next winter.
The Saturday after Lilli's wedding, Carrie found no wedding on the calender. A friend was having a back yard BBQ and was pleading with Carrie to come over and just relax. So Carrie did, in a loose fitting, very comfortable, maxi style dress of knit. The day was a little chilly so she brought along a light-weight denim jacket.
Carrie had a good time as well as way too many glasses of the amazingly delicious tasting fruit punch that was being served. Josa's family is volunteering at a Living History Center. This month's display is about life during the 1880's. Josa is wearing an authentic child's costume from the era. She has on a cashmere dress and a velvet coat with vest, cuffs and pockets of damassé.
Lilli Bennet's wedding was a big one. Carrie felt rushed having just come off Carrol's wedding. Fortunately, Carrie had been the one taking care of Lilli's wedding all along. But still, having to look after the office, her own clients, plus those of Manu's (since Manu still wasn't feeling well), left Carrie very busy.
Lilli had lace as one of the main themes for her wedding. So Carrie went shopping to find a dress that would go with the tan, beige, ivory and white color scheme as well as the roses and lace theme. When she found this dress made of some kind of synthetic fiber with a lace overdress, she knew she had to buy it. At a discount store she was able to find the lace-covered shoes that matched the dress as if they were made for each other. |
