"but a favorite of hers, a soft white flannel simply made."
I love the scene in The White Lady where this is taken from. It would have just been a simple dress made of white flannel so that's what I did. =) Wedding gowns for the nobility and royalty consist of a long sleeved under-gown with a plain neck and a skirt that falls in pleats. The over-gown has a stand up collar in the back and dips into a keyhole-shaped neckline in the front. The loose sleeves end just below the elbow and trail down into a short train. The skirt flares out over the under-gown and tapers to a train in the back. Due to being sick and our hiatus, Jolene will not be ready on September 17. Mel "Her one evening dress was a dark green chiffon which she herself had fashioned from an old gown of her mother’s," This is a dress Kerry wears for dinner, as you can see there was not a lot of description so I took artistic liberties. This dress is made of chiffon with a silk under dress probably, an under dress of something anyway. Lot of gathers and puckers to the bodice. Billie Jo Court costume for the women of this country: a long-sleeved, floor-sweeping gown of heavy silk, with a square neck trimmed with band of contrasting silk; a quilted corset and matching armbands, both with embroidered circles on plain bands at the top and bottom. This dress took me the longest to draw. I lost count of how many times I reworked the design on the corset. Interestingly enough, it turned out to be one of my favorite outfits when I finally finished it. Due to being sick and our hiatus, Jolene will not be ready on September 17. Mel "one a little white silk," From Kerry. This one was fun, there was not a lot in the description but that made it all the easier in some ways. I took 'white silk' and knowing the style of the day and such drew a dress. I really like how this one turned out. It is funny how sometimes you have a picture in your mind and start to draw one thing, but by the time you are done it is something completely different; well that was this dress. But I like what it was in the end better then what it started out as. Due to being sick and our hiatus, the Emma will not be ready on September 15. Billie Jo Mourning dress in this country consists of a long-sleeved gown with flared cuffs that fold back and a skirt that sweeps the floor, an over-gown high neck, wide shoulders that hang over the top of the arm to form a 'cap' sleeve and an A-line skirt, and a corset that laces in the back. Due to being sick and our hiatus, Jolene will not be ready on September 17. Instead, her PDF will be available for download HERE on September 24.
Mel Aaaand, we're back! We will continue to post four times a week for the next two weeks until Jolene and Emma are finished. "It had a sweet round neck and a deep fall of drapery over the shoulder because Aunt Hannah did not like ordinary evening dress, did not think it modest. it had been carefully picoted at the village shop by loving hands, and cut with scrupulous pains by Aunt Jocelyn afterwards." From Silver Wings. I did a lot of searching for this one, I was not sure just what to do at first but I got an idea and came up with this. Made of chiffon the shoulder drape is a bit see through but the rest of the dress is lined with a satin. Due to being sick and our hiatus, the Emma will not be ready on September 15. Billie Jo Noblewomen would wear this gown to receive important guests to their castle. It consists of a high-necked under-gown with long sleeves that are rounded at the ends, and trim of a contrasting color on the hem; a scoop-necked, short-sleeved over-gown of the contrasting color, with bands the color of the under-gown at the hem and the sleeves- which are also decorated with stitching; and a stiff corset with decorative stitching.
"She put on a plain little cotton gown with blue flowers trailing over it and cut pockets and a belt."
This description is from Silver Wings. A great book if you ask me! Just a simple frock of flowered cotton, with a belt and pockets as well as a collar. |
