This dress took me the longest to draw. I lost count of how many times I reworked the design on the corset. Interestingly enough, it turned out to be one of my favorite outfits when I finally finished it.

Court costume for the women of this country: a long-sleeved, floor-sweeping gown of heavy silk, with a square neck trimmed with band of contrasting silk; a quilted corset and matching armbands, both with embroidered circles on plain bands at the top and bottom. This dress took me the longest to draw. I lost count of how many times I reworked the design on the corset. Interestingly enough, it turned out to be one of my favorite outfits when I finally finished it. Due to being sick and our hiatus, Jolene will not be ready on September 17. Instead, her PDF will be available for download HERE on September 24.

"one a little white silk," From Kerry. This one was fun, there was not a lot in the description but that made it all the easier in some ways. I took 'white silk' and knowing the style of the day and such drew a dress. I really like how this one turned out. It is funny how sometimes you have a picture in your mind and start to draw one thing, but by the time you are done it is something completely different; well that was this dress. But I like what it was in the end better then what it started out as. Due to being sick and our hiatus, the Emma will not be ready on September 15. Instead, her PDF will be available for download HERE on September 22.
Billie Jo Mourning dress in this country consists of a long-sleeved gown with flared cuffs that fold back and a skirt that sweeps the floor, an over-gown high neck, wide shoulders that hang over the top of the arm to form a 'cap' sleeve and an A-line skirt, and a corset that laces in the back. Due to being sick and our hiatus, Jolene will not be ready on September 17. Instead, her PDF will be available for download HERE on September 24.
Mel Aaaand, we're back! We will continue to post four times a week for the next two weeks until Jolene and Emma are finished. "It had a sweet round neck and a deep fall of drapery over the shoulder because Aunt Hannah did not like ordinary evening dress, did not think it modest. it had been carefully picoted at the village shop by loving hands, and cut with scrupulous pains by Aunt Jocelyn afterwards." From Silver Wings. I did a lot of searching for this one, I was not sure just what to do at first but I got an idea and came up with this. Made of chiffon the shoulder drape is a bit see through but the rest of the dress is lined with a satin. Due to being sick and our hiatus, the Emma will not be ready on September 15. Instead, her PDF will be available for download HERE on September 22.
Billie Jo Hi, I'm back again with a quick announcement. Billie Jo and I still don't feel very well yet, so we will be taking a break from this blog for several days. Today's dress will not be going up. I'm not sure how long our hiatus will last but hopefully no longer than a week.
Thank you all for your understanding. Mel Noblewomen would wear this gown to receive important guests to their castle. It consists of a high-necked under-gown with long sleeves that are rounded at the ends, and trim of a contrasting color on the hem; a scoop-necked, short-sleeved over-gown of the contrasting color, with bands the color of the under-gown at the hem and the sleeves- which are also decorated with stitching; and a stiff corset with decorative stitching.
Hello blog readers,
As you may have noticed, Wednesday and Thursday's posts did NOT go up on time. That's because my entire family came down with a nasty cold bug. I was in bed for two days and Billie is still in bed. Josie Anne has been busy helping with cooking and canning- too busy to post in place of either of us. I will be posting Jolene's dress in a little while, but Emma's next dress will not go up until Billie is feeling well enough to post it. I hope all of you are doing well! Thanks for reading this blog! Mel "She put on a plain little cotton gown with blue flowers trailing over it and cut pockets and a belt."
This description is from Silver Wings. A great book if you ask me! Just a simple frock of flowered cotton, with a belt and pockets as well as a collar. Upper-class women would wear this outfit to visit friends. It consists of a v-necked gown with flared skirt and a long, tunic vest that is open on the sides and front and is held together by the corset- which laces in the back. Over the corset is a linked chain and there are matching chain armbands and a chain necklace.
"He ordered a hearty meal, and enjoyed it, wondering why it was the salad made him think of one night when he had taken dinner at the Wetherills'. Miss Constance had worn a gown of pale blue georgette, and looked like a beautiful goddess in a cool cloud."
This description is from The White Lady, page 164 in my copy of the book. I had a lot of fun with this one. It was a dinner or evening dress based on what it says. I made it flowing both at the sleeves and the hem. It has an under dress of silk or satin with the georgette over it, with a belt around the waist. |
